A Fulbright Seminar: U.S. Best Teaching Practices hosted by N.D.M.C. Navyug School

There were at least 30 teachers in attendance for today's seminar. Today's objective was to demonstrate student-centered, interactive and technology embedded activities used in the United States. Fulbright scholars and presenters, Breanna Reynolds from Horizon High School and Jeff Youde from Seattle, Washington designed and led today's seminar with guest speaker, Erica Bailin, highlighting differentiation and gifted education.

We were greeted with tremendous generosity and warmth. The mutual respect between the presenters and the audience of educators was inspiring. We learned a great deal from each other and look forward to future projects. It was an amazing experience.

  9. Noah,

This is Ms. Reynolds responding to your question. Right now my 6th and 7th graders are taking their half-yearly exam. This is worth 100 points and consists of four sections: Reading, writing, grammar, and literature.

Prior to the exam I introduced my favorite holiday to my Indian classes- HALLOWEEN! The Indian students do not celebrate Halloween and were so excited to learn about the festival and the traditions. The project I assigned was for the students to create a Halloween costume and wear it to class. They also had to write a report on the person they decided to dress up as. Many students dressed up as Hindu Gods and Goddesses which were just beautiful! They just LOVED celebrating Halloween and thought American kids were so lucky to have this holiday each year.

I will post pictures on the blog of my Indian students' first Halloween as soon as possible.

    Thanks!

    Ms. Reynolds

  16. Hi Miss.Bailin,
The questions below are for Bree.Bree what is it like being a teacher in India? How is it different from teaching in the United States? What's your favorite thing about India? What's is the most interesting thing you've either seen, heard, tasted, or have found out about India?
    Sincerely,
    Emily Woodard
P.S. I miss you Miss.Bailin and don't worry everything is going fine here in Phoenix.

  17. Wow! I am so impressed with my students commitment to writing to me. Thank you all very much. I feel so loved. I hope you are learning a great deal from this site and seeing a small glimpse of what the world has to offer.

I will just respond in the order of the posts.
-Noah: I am teaching the students Think=Pair=Share, Round Robin, and other Kagan strategies that we use in the States. After I teach then how to do it, we have them connect their vocabulary and content words with it. I have also been teaching the students about America and teaching them how to play educational games. I did a math lesson yesterday on Fractions.

-James: Hi James! I am doing well. We are super busy, so I am starting to get exhausted. I like most of the food. I am not a big fan of any of the items that are made with milk, but i could ea their rice, beans, and chutney all day. Chutney is cilantro, garlic, onions, and a few other ingredients that are deliciously pureed together. Yum! The food is mighty spicy, but I'm liking it so far.

-Devon: I have seen a lot of monkeys. They are very fast and fairly large.

-Kaci: When you ho traveling, I want you to take a picture from the window and post i on your own blog.

-Stephen & Connely: I was soooo impressed with the students artwork as well. They should sell it! I think some of them have bright futures as artists.

-Devon: That is so creative that you decorated with Saris. I never would of thought of that, but I love that idea.

-Randy: The plane ride was awesome! Did you check out the pictures for it. I loved it. I could fly internationally all the time. :) The students haven't used the restroom yet.

-Ben: Is this the infamous Ben? Bree's brother? Hello. Thanks for checking our blog. I love that art work too. As of now, none are for sale, but they should be. I like the second on too! India rocks. We have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off because we are so busy. :) Please share any experiences you had on here, so our students can read something from your perspective. I can't wait to meet you one day.

-Griffin: I am enjoying the food and staying very busy. I am doing very well.

-Alex: I like the artwork too. I think they would do very well in our creative honors classes back in The States.

-Nathan: Hi! I am unclear about what your question is, but I like the art too.

-Thanks for the update Emily. :) I always worry when I am not there. I'm sure you are all doing amazing. Bree will answer you questions, but she says that she needs some time to ponder them. She is like me, she needs time to make her response as meaningful as possible. :)
