Mahatma Gandhi: Artwork and Creative Thinking

A - This was a painting that was displayed at the museum.
B - I took this picture of a glass outline of Gandhi's body when the power went out at the museum. When I looked back at the photograph, this is what appeared. Although it was not what I "wanted" when I took the picture, I decided that I liked this one so much better because it seemed to apply more to Gandhi's life and my experiences at the museum.

C - After taking picture B (above this one) I took this picture of the doorway.

These pictures all have a source of light. I think this shows that Gandhi was a source of light or hope for India as well as mankind. I also think it reflects a sense of higher thinking. It is almost as if the light is protection because it is around him and a source of inner strength when it is showed within him.

  2. Art influences society because it can creatively show people the triiumphs and struggles of society. It can be a combination of ugly and beauty. Art can take many forms and it shows how people can manipulate a society using different techniques. Political cartoons are a good example of how art influences what people think.

  9. The similarity that I see in all three pictures is that there is a bright light that shines. The spirit within Gandhi and associated with him is so intense that he shines, even in the dark.

    Scott,

What an articulate response. Well said. I think everyone agrees with your post and appreciates your words.

    Sam,

I like how you are reading other posts and responding to them. Great job!!!

    Noah,

Can you research Gandhi and give me three facts about his life? Post them when you find some good research.

Now, can anyone give me SPECIFIC EXAMPLES of how Gandhi was a source of light for the Indian community? List a few things he has DONE to prove he was a source of hope for the people.

I want ALL of you in my classroom!!!

  11. Sam,

    Triumphs/Struggles
    Beauty/Ugliness
    Good/Bad

I LOVE your statement about artwork- how it represents all aspects of society.

Now take a piece of artwork displayed and analyze it. Can you find how it represents the good and the bad? Beauty and ugliness? Triumphs and failures?

    Let me know.

  20. How does art influence or reflect society?

Art is beautiful everybody loves it. Art is here because it represents cultures, it expresses feelings, it tells stories and it can show us beautiful places.

I think picture B shoows Ghandi the best becaouse he was the awakener. He faced violence and terror but still protested non violently. He awakened everyone to n world of getting our points around peacefuly. For one he influenced Martin Luther king. MLK took the nonvioent protests to desegrate a country while Ghandi did the same for India.
